Forget the Recount
The shenanigans continue among politicos, the media and other sore losers who refuse to accept the inevitable, that Donald Trump has been elected president of the United States. Fortunately, life goes on for the rest of us.
Green Party hopeful Jill Stein - who was having a very good day when she picked up three percent (3%) support in one of our pre-election White House Watch surveys - continues her quixotic attempt to force recounts in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. She can’t possibly win, but we’ll leave it to others to decide why she’s even trying.
Hillary Clinton’s forces are keeping an eye on the proceedings but aren’t embracing them. There are 46 electoral voters at stake in the three states in question, but Clinton would need to win all three in the recounts to push her current electoral total of 232 over the 270 needed to win. No two of the states in any combination will get her there.
According to the New York Times, Trump has a 64,000-vote lead in Pennsylvania. The dead would truly have to be walking to the polls in Philadelphia for enough Democratic votes to be found to swing that result. Not that there’s any indication that Trump’s much narrower wins in Wisconsin and Michigan are at risk
Voters by a 49% to 39% margin opposed the recounts in a Rasmussen Reports survey late last month, and just 22% believe they are even slightly likely to change the outcome of the election. They’re right: The recounts are going nowhere.
For Rasmussen Reports, I’m Fran Coombs.
